Soda Pop Experiment by Room 7

Yesterday Room 7 did a soda pop experiment. This week for inquiry we are focusing developing our understanding about gas particles.  We learnt that the carbon dioxide bubbles form around and on the salt/sugar.

The salt/ sugar drops to the bottom and pushes the carbon dioxide out.

The carbon dioxide has a nucleus to hold on to which in this case is the salt/ sugar.

As the carbon dioxide in the Coke hold onto the salt/ sugar, the sugar then drops to the bottom of the bottle and pushes the carbon dioxide upwards which causes it to go into the balloon.

Procedura of Experiment:

  1. Fill a balloon with 1/4 sugar (Have this prepped before the Coke is opened)
  2. Get a bottle of Coke/ Pepsi
  3. Slowly take the lid off the Coke
  4. (Ensure there are no holes in the balloon)
  5. Place balloon over the top of bottle
  6. Tilt the balloon so that the sugar/salt slowly falls into the bottle
  7. Watch what happens to the soda and the balloon.
  8. Repeat the experience with salt

My First Time Taking my Nebook Home by Misimoa

Today I got to take my netbook home and that means that I can get to do my homework online that my teacher has organised for me and that I can catch up on unfinished work from school plus I can blog more and share with the world the work that I have been doing and share it with my lovely teacher Ms Aireen and bonus point after we finish our homework we get to have free time but only if the home work is quality and up to a year 7 and 8 standard.

The Tiger by Mavis

For the writing part of our homework we were given a photo of a tiger in a bathroom. We used as much imagination as possible to turn this photo into a Narrative. I hope you enjoy reading my story below

Water trickled down Josh’s back as he hopped out of the shower. The white bathtub groaned as it gulped down the water. Moaning in the effort. His blue eyes fell on the new mirror which had just been installed. A crack echoed through the bathroom as he lifted his leg out, his eyes still enchanted by the mirror failed to assist the rest of his body. His toe jabbed. He fell head over heels.

His face suddenly buried into fur. He opened his eyes and got a handful of Jaffa orange and licorice black fur. He jolted into a kick stance. He looked closer it was a tiger.  The tigers green eyes flicked open. It re winded onto it hind paws then literally walked past Josh’s pale face.

It situated itself onto the glistening toilet bowl. After a few minutes it finished, suddenly... it lunged at Josh scanning it’s blue eyes. A voice crawled out the jagged teeth. “ Josh? What are you doing here?” The voice ran into Josh’s ear triggering this one thought “Jordan?”

The tiger nodded. Josh yelped “ My twin is a tiger!” Jordan nodded “ Josh help me only of you say the poem backwards I’ll be human.” “How’d you get here?” Josh asked “ Jordan roared “ I was left here last night when you said the poem you...you...you bonecracker!” “ Me what?” Josh raised his eyebrow. “A tiger saying now do it “

“Tiger gone before tonight
Green eyes bright
Tigers right
Tails long
Humans wrong”

Josh opened his eye. His frown dove into a smile as their stood in bone and flesh, in jeans and a singlet topped with a hat, was his blue-eyed, blonde haired brother. They hugged each other for a long moment Jordan sighed now time for payback “ Chicken cluck showing bad lu-”
Josh tackled  Jordan before he could finish. “Boys!!The Chicken Taco is ready!” Their mothers voice rang out from the kitchen. Jordan and Josh looked at each other... “BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!”

The Tiger in the Bathroom by Chasity

For the writing part of our homework we were given a photo of a tiger in a bathroom. We used as much of our imagination as we could to finalise our narrative stories and make them really readable for the readers that are going to read these. I hope you enjoy reading my Narrative story.

With trails of footprints leading to the door, Alexis covered her body with a towel. The white bathtub groaned as it gulped up the last of water. Alexis walked over to the mirror and took one glance at her beautiful face. She smiled at her reflection and it smiled back at her. Her long wavy hair soaked with water, dripped onto the floor leaving tiny droplets. The echoing sound of crackling, was the sound of Alexis trying to lift her leg. She couldn't keep her balance and ended up face down to the ground.

Alexis tried to get up but the dark colour black took over her eye sight. She was now in a conscious reaction. Alexis was now face to face with a tiger. A tiger that had Golden brown skin with traces of black lines. Her eyes slowly opened. She took one short glance at the tiger. The tigers brown eyes looked at Alexis with a more frightened facial than she had. “I am a friend of yours from the past”. The tiger said. Alexis had a dumb look on her face. Then out came a voice “Johnson” yelled Alexis. The both of them smiled. “Now close your eyes and count to 10, I'm gonna do my business”. Roared her tiger friend. “How is that impossible” Questioned Alexis. There was no answer from the tiger.

Alexis took a small peek and saw the tiger on the toilet. She giggled to herself as quietly as she could. “You may open your eyes now” said Johnson. “How did this happen to you?” asked Alexis. Johnson never answered. “Alexis are you done in the shower, you have been in there over 20 minutes already” Yelled her mother. Alexis opened the bathroom door and yelled out “Yes! I'm done” She turned back looking at the traces of muddy footprints her tiger friend left.

Meeting Will.I.Am by Mavis and Faith

Faith,Taylor,Jayden and I got the chance to experience another way of  learning with the Manaiakalani.
A fantastic piece of new which came to us as "Someone donated some money to the Manaikalani education trust" Well we found out that someone was Mr Will.I.Am
I hope you enjoy reading my awesome experience below
Please leave a comment!!

Thursday 6 May 2013, was well... the best day of our life!!! I’m not being dramatic or anything but a group of students got the chance to see that Mr.William James Adams, otherwise known as Will.I.Am . He has donated $100,000 to the Manaiakalani Education Trust. We were told at first that it was an anonymous donater but when we arrived we got the news that it was Will.I.Am himself who had donated the money. It was something worth experiencing.

When the cheque was presented we were thankful and honored for his helpful donation towards the Manaiakalani Education Trust. His inspirational words motivated us all as students to keep moving forward in life.

The words that he preached today was "My mission is to help transform disadvantaged youths, and I hope my donation to the Manaiakalani Trust will help these young people gain the skills they need for tomorrow's job market."

We acknowledged that fact the he shared a small portion of his life with us about growing up with  only his mum to raise him and about the fact that music and arts literally saved his life. He told us that his dream was to look after his mother and siblings.

When he told us what his dream was we felt like we could do something with our life. Meeting or hearing him wasn’t just hearing or seeing him as a celebrity but we got to hear and see him as a person who motivated himself to succeed in life.

We came back to school feeling glad we got to be part of something worth remembering, we got to be part of something we could tell our friends with pride and experience.

Fractions Wordle

This term we are focusing on fractions for maths. This week we are focusing on understanding the language related to fractions.

Loni's Ancestral Poem

I am the son of a Tongan queen and a Maori warrior.

I am a strong Tongan and Maori chief.

I am proud of where I come from.
I speak the Tongan language with pride.
Tongan war dances,
the taste of ota and the smell of fresh coconut oil represent the culture I come from.

I love my ancestors.

Motivational Topic Experiment

To motivate us into this term's topic we did an experiment about 'Melting Moments'. We used the science process (which includes hypothesising, testing, results and conclusion) to do this experiment. We look forward to investigating and learning more about this topic.
